Compliance & Sustainability

  • BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is used to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings across all stages of their lifecycle, from design and construction to operation and refurbishment.

    • Sustainability Assessment Framework:

BREEAM provides a comprehensive framework for assessing the sustainability of buildings and infrastructure, covering various aspects like energy and water use, materials, waste management, indoor environment, and more.

    • Globally Recognized Standard:

BREEAM is an internationally recognized standard for sustainable building design and is widely used in the UK, as well as in many other countries.

    • Comprehensive Assessment:

BREEAM assessments cover a wide range of topics, including design, construction, operation, and end-of-life phases of a building.

    • Quantitative Standards:

BREEAM uses quantitative standards that are independently assessed, ensuring a rigorous and reliable evaluation of a building's environmental performance.

    • Certification System:

BREEAM provides a certification system that recognizes and promotes sustainable building practices, offering ratings from "Poor" to "Outstanding".

    • Benefits:

Using BREEAM helps project owners achieve their sustainability goals, reduce carbon emissions, improve building performance, and enhance occupant well-being.

    • Wide Range of Applications:

BREEAM can be applied to a variety of building types, including new construction, refurbishment, and in-use buildings.

  • SKA Rating is an environmental assessment method that rates and compares the sustainability performance of commercial office and retail fit-out projects in the UK.

    • Purpose:

SKA Rating helps landlords and tenants understand and improve the sustainability of their fit-out projects.

    • Scope:

It focuses specifically on fit-out projects, making it distinct from whole-building assessment methods like BREEAM or LEED.

    • Assessment:

The SKA system uses over 100 "good practice measures" across areas like energy, waste, water, materials, and wellbeing.

    • Levels:

Projects are awarded a Bronze, Silver, or Gold rating based on how well they perform against these good practice measures.

    • Benefits:

A SKA rating can be used to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, attract tenants or investors, and improve the long-term value of a property.

    • Process:

The SKA assessment process involves identifying the measures in scope for the project, gathering evidence to prove the measures have been delivered, and achieving performance and waste benchmarks.

  • The WELL Building Standard is a framework for designing, constructing and operating buildings to prioritise occupant well-being, focusing on aspects like air quality, water quality, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind.

    • Holistic Approach:

The WELL Building Standard takes a holistic approach to health in the built environment, considering not only the physical design but also the behavioral, operational, and design aspects.

    • Seven (or Ten) Concepts:

The standard focuses on seven key concepts: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Fitness, Comfort, and Mind. In the newer WELL v2 version, these have expanded to 10 concepts, including Movement, Sound, Materials, and Community.

    • Evidence-Based:

The standard is grounded in scientific research and evidence about how the built environment affects human health and wellness.

    • Certification:

Buildings can be certified with the WELL Building Standard, with levels ranging from Silver to Platinum, demonstrating their commitment to occupant health.

    • Global Applicability:

The WELL Building Standard is recognized and used in numerous countries, making it a globally applicable framework for creating healthier buildings.

  • Fitwell ('facility innovations towards wellness environment leadership’)

    • What is the Fitwell standard?

The Fitwell Standard provides tailored scorecards for existing and new buildings and sites to optimise the unique opportunities for every project to receive the Fitwel healthy building certification.

    • What is Fitwel rating?

A Fitwel score is translated into a star rating with certification, depending on where the assessed project falls within the scorecard requirements.

    • What does Fitwel measure?

Fitwell offers a pathway to track the health-related impacts of your assets through streamlined measurement tools and expert guidance.
